Honest Taskers, SupportDDS, and Edge lead this year's shortlist of virtual dental assistant companies, nine healthcare-focused staffing firms ranked on how they carry a dental practice's administrative and patient-communication load, from insurance verification and full benefit breakdowns to hygiene reschedules, and recall and reactivation campaigns, all in your time zone and under a signed BAA. The companies here staff your office with remote people, not AI phone bots, and none of them replaces the licensed dental assistant working chairside. Below we set out which admin work is recurring enough, what happens when software does not fit, how these companies price their services, whether a provider names eligibility and claims work, and which task to take over first.
Disclosure: Honest Taskers publishes this list and appears at position 1. We're judged on the same five published criteria as every other company here.

How we chose the best virtual dental assistant companies
We ranked these companies on five facts checked at each provider's own website on August 12, 2026. Those facts are dental specialization, talent location, published pricing, stated dental assistant tasks, and HIPAA posture. Dental assistant support here means administrative and patient-communication work, so verification, scheduling, recall, treatment follow-up, intake, and claims. Chairside clinical work stays with your licensed team, so we didn't credit any firm for clinical scope it can't legally hold, and blank facts read "not publicly listed" instead of a guess.
Best virtual dental assistant companies compared
The table ranks all 9 on the same columns, Honest Taskers first because we publish the list. Rates were checked August 12, 2026 and change often.

Published dental rates cluster between $10 and $14 an hour, the dental-only firms tend to name the real work such as eligibility checks and hygiene reminders, and only four of the nine put a signed BAA on the record.
1. Honest Taskers

Pricing: $10.00–$12.65/hrLocation: US clients; PH, LatAm, India and Pakistan recruitingModel: Managed staffingFirst hire: Two-week working trial
Honest Taskers is a healthcare-focused virtual staffing company whose dental line spans virtual dental assistant, receptionist, biller, coder, treatment coordinator, insurance verification, and patient recall roles, and it can prioritize candidates who've worked in Dentrix, Open Dental, Eaglesoft, Curve Dental, or CareStack. Candidates take quarterly HIPAA and data privacy training under a dedicated compliance officer, work the client's time zone, and sign a Business Associate Agreement before touching PHI, with compliance verified by Accountable. Clients get a dedicated Customer Success Advocate, unlimited replacement support, and a possible credit covering a performance replacement's first two weeks. Honest Taskers reports 99.6% average monthly retention, credited to healthcare benefits for eligible team members, competitive pay, interest-free loans, wellness packages, and performance-based raises. See the full virtual dental assistant service.
Limitation: not the lowest hourly rate on this list.
2. SupportDDS
Best for: group practices and DSOs that want a dental-only vendor with US oversight and fast onboarding.
Pricing: $13/hr full-timeLocation: Zimbabwe, Zambia, Costa Rica; Texas HQModel: Dedicated staffing plus RCM plansTrial: Not publicly listed
SupportDDS works only in dentistry, serving private practices and dental service organizations from delivery centers in Harare and Victoria Falls, Lusaka, and Liberia Guanacaste. Packaged revenue cycle plans are published at $2,680 a month for RCM Core and $2,980 for RCM Advantage, with no long-term contract and cancel-anytime terms. The company reports onboarding in five days or less, and its HIPAA compliance is company-reported rather than independently verified.
Limitation: no BAA is described publicly, so get one in writing before any patient data moves.
3. Edge
Best for: practices that want software training named up front and a BAA signed before day one.
Pricing: Flat monthly fee, figure not publishedLocation: Not publicly listedModel: Managed staffingTrial: No trial published; free replacement
Edge markets its dental line as Edge for Dental, staffing scheduling, insurance, and billing coordinators. It's the only company here that publicly names its software list, covering Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental, Curve Dental, Weave, RevenueWell, DentalXChange, and Dental Intel, with talent trained on the main three before starting. Its HIPAA program and SOC 2 posture are company-reported, and a hire who doesn't work out is replaced at no cost. Its flat monthly fee is unpublished but called all-in.
Limitation: neither the talent location nor the monthly fee is published.
4. Swiss Monkey
Best for: practices that want US-based front office help for a few hours a week instead of a full-time hire.
Pricing: Hourly plus 13.5%–17.5% platform feeLocation: US-based professionalsModel: Vetted marketplaceTrial: Not publicly listed
Swiss Monkey runs a dental-only marketplace of pre-vetted front office professionals, mostly US-based, with global talent when a role calls for it. Coverage is fractional, from 5 to more than 20 hours a week with no long-term contract. The company reports a HIPAA-aligned framework with BAAs and NDAs, plus productivity monitoring and automated compliance documentation.
Limitation: the hourly rate isn't published, and a 13.5% to 17.5% platform fee sits on top of it.
5. Reach
Best for: practices that want Latin America time-zone overlap and Spanish-speaking patient calls.
Pricing: $11/hr, from $1,995/moLocation: Latin AmericaModel: Managed staffingTrial: Not publicly listed
Reach staffs dental practices from Latin America for US time-zone overlap and Spanish-language patient demand. Its published $1,995 monthly fee works out to about $11 an hour across 174 working hours. Reach describes its staff as real people supported by AI tools for eligibility checks, recall messages, and documentation, so ask which steps a person performs. Its compliance page is unusually blunt, stating that virtual assistants aren't HIPAA compliant by default and that compliance depends on the systems, workflows, access controls, training, and oversight a practice puts in place.
Limitation: it says itself that a virtual assistant isn't HIPAA compliant on its own, and no BAA is described publicly.
6. DentVia
Best for: practices that need a bilingual English and Spanish assistant at a published rate.
Pricing: $11.00/hr English, $14.00/hr bilingualLocation: Not publicly listedModel: Month to monthTrial: Not publicly listed
DentVia works only with dental practices and publishes separate English and bilingual English-Spanish rates, month to month with no long-term commitment. The task list it names maps closely to what a dental front office hands off, adding lead follow-up, revenue cycle management, and hygiene reminders to the usual scheduling and verification work. HIPAA compliance is claimed but company-reported, and the site doesn't say where its assistants work from.
Limitation: the talent location isn't published and no BAA is described, so both need confirming.
7. Remote Dental VAs
Best for: practices that want a long replacement guarantee and a quote built around their own workflow.
Pricing: Not publicly listedLocation: Not publicly listedModel: Dedicated hireGuarantee: Six-month replacement
Remote Dental VAs places dedicated assistants with US dental practices and quotes per role on candidate skills and experience rather than posting a rate card. The published task list is the longest of any dental-only firm here, adding patient communication, billing and payment posting, records cleanup, forms routing, and data entry on top of the usual scheduling and eligibility work. Its six-month replacement guarantee at no cost is longer than anything else on this list. HIPAA awareness is stated, but it's company-reported and no BAA is described.
Limitation: neither pricing nor talent location is published.
8. DocVA
Best for: practices watching budget that want a $10 rate with no lock-in period.
Pricing: $10/hrLocation: PH, LatAm, India, PakistanModel: Managed staffingTrial: No published trial; re-matching
DocVA is a general healthcare staffing firm with a dental line, recruiting at the cheapest published rate here with no lock-in period. Its named dental work adds documentation support to the usual scheduling, reminders, and verification, and its assistants work inside the practice's existing system rather than asking the office to switch. Work devices sit under time tracking and monitoring, HIPAA training is stated but company-reported, and DocVA notes it operates under the Philippines Data Privacy Act.
Limitation: no BAA is described publicly, so get one in writing before any patient data moves.
9. Staffing For Doctors
Best for: practices that want a signed BAA and a flat rate with no setup fee.
Pricing: $14/hr flatLocation: Not publicly listed; US account managementModel: Managed staffingTrial: Not publicly listed
Staffing For Doctors covers more than 55 healthcare specialties with a dental practice line inside that, naming a front desk receptionist, insurance verification specialist, new patient intake coordinator, plus patient financing, outreach, and recall roles. Its flat rate is the highest published here, it charges no setup fees, and account management runs from a Los Angeles office. It's one of the few here describing a signed BAA and secure devices, and its SOC 2 posture is company-reported. Talent location isn't published, so ask where your assistant sits.
Limitation: a general healthcare firm spanning 55-plus specialties, so confirm how deep its dental bench goes.
Which dental admin work is recurring enough for a virtual dental assistant?
Eligibility, claims and recall, which repeat every week and slip first when the front desk is busy. The American Dental Association's Health Policy Institute reports that 91% of dentists recruiting hygienists called it "very or extremely challenging", that only 60% have enough hygienists on staff, and that staffing tied with dental insurance issues as dentists' top concern for 2026, in its dental hygienist shortage research. A remote assistant doesn't touch that clinical gap, since a hygienist's work happens in the operatory, but it frees licensed staff from phones and paperwork. A temp agency fills a chair for a week and leaves, and an in-house coordinator costs salary, benefits, and space. If you mostly need phones and the schedule, look at a virtual dental receptionist. Our dental staffing shortage piece has the wider view.
What happens when a virtual dental assistant does not fit your software?
The work slows to the speed of whoever can use it, which is the risk people underestimate, alongside PHI exposure, scope creep, turnover and vague pricing.
- PHI in verification and claims. Ask for the signed BAA plus the device, network, and access controls before anyone opens a chart.
- Clinical scope creep. Put in writing that chairside assisting, radiographs, and charting a clinical exam stay with your licensed team, since a remote person can't legally hold that work.
- Software fit. Ask which candidates have worked in your system, such as Dentrix or Open Dental, and who pays for the ramp.
- Turnover. Ask about retention and replacement terms, since a new voice every quarter resets patient rapport.
- Pricing you can't budget. Ask for the all-in monthly figure, including platform and setup fees, because three of the nine here don't publish a rate.
How do virtual dental assistant companies price their services?
Virtual dental assistant companies price four main ways, by a flat hourly rate, a monthly retainer, an hourly rate plus a platform fee, or a custom quote. Published rates run from $10 at DocVA to $14 flat at Staffing For Doctors, with DentVia at $11.00 English and $14.00 bilingual, Reach at about $11, and SupportDDS at $13 (checked August 12, 2026). Honest Taskers sits mid-range at around $10 to about $12.65 by role, candidate background, schedule, and location. Swiss Monkey adds a 13.5% to 17.5% platform fee on top of the hourly rate, Edge charges an unpublished flat monthly fee, and Remote Dental VAs quotes per role. Ask every firm for the all-in monthly number, and our guide to how virtual assistants help with dental billing prices claims-heavy scope separately.
Does the virtual dental assistant company name eligibility and claims work it has done?
Ask for the named workflows rather than the word dental, then weigh HIPAA in writing, your software stack, honest pricing and a clear clinical line.
- Real dental specialization. A firm that names eligibility checks, benefit breakdowns, and hygiene reschedules knows the work, while a general agency learns it on your time.
- A signed BAA, not a badge. Look for HIPAA and data privacy training plus a BAA signed before anyone opens a chart. Treat compliance claims as company-reported until you see paperwork.
- Your software stack. Confirm which candidates have used your practice management system and patient communication tools, such as Dentrix, Open Dental, or Weave.
- Time zone and language. Know whether staff work your patients' clock and whether you need Spanish on the phone.
- Dated, published pricing. A dated rate beats a vague promise, and platform or setup fees belong in the comparison.
Which dental task should a virtual dental assistant take over first?
Eligibility, because it repeats daily and every claim behind it depends on getting it right.
- List the tasks to hand off first, such as verification, recall calls, and unscheduled treatment follow-up.
- Shortlist firms whose dental scope, talent location, and HIPAA posture fit, and rule out anyone who won't put a rate in writing.
- Interview one or two candidates, ask them to walk a real verification call, and confirm software experience.
- Sign a Business Associate Agreement and set system permissions yourself before anyone touches patient data.
- Run a trial period, then onboard with written scripts, a daily task list, and rules for escalating anything clinical to your licensed staff.

Methodology and sources
We verified each company at its own website on August 12, 2026, recording dental focus, talent location, published pricing, stated dental assistant support, and HIPAA posture. Staffing context comes from the American Dental Association's Health Policy Institute research on the dental hygienist shortage. Rates were captured as dated points, so re-check before you buy. Facts a company didn't publish read "not publicly listed", self-stated claims are labeled company-reported, and we repeated no vendor savings claim or compliance certification language.
