Honest Taskers, Wishup, and Task Virtual lead this year's shortlist of companies to hire a medical virtual assistant from India, five firms ranked on whether they state India as a talent location, published pricing, which healthcare roles they name, HIPAA posture including whether a BAA is signed, and how US-hours coverage works. Five is the whole list because five is what could be verified from source, and this article explains why that number is so low. Below we set out the choice between India, the Philippines and Latin America, the risks of hiring from India, what it costs, whether India is stated as the talent location, and which tasks need live contact.
Disclosure: Honest Taskers publishes this list and appears at position 1. We're judged on the same five published criteria as every other company here.

How we chose these companies
India has one of the largest healthcare outsourcing sectors in the world, so a short list looks like an error. It isn't. The sector is built around enterprise revenue cycle contracts, where a hospital system buys a coding or claims operation with hundreds of people on it. Few Indian firms sell what this search is asking for, which is one virtual assistant placed into a small US practice, with the country stated openly. Verifying that from source is what cut a large market down to five names.
We compared five things: whether India is stated as a talent location, published pricing, which healthcare roles are named rather than implied, HIPAA posture including whether a business associate agreement is signed, and how coverage of US hours is described. The first is the one most firms fail, and it's the one this article can't do without, because a title promising talent from India has to know where the talent is.
India's structural trade-off is the reverse of Latin America's. The time difference from the US mainland is nine and a half to twelve and a half hours, so an assistant covering your clinic day is working through their night. Firms handle this with permanent night-shift teams, which works but makes retention the number to ask about. What India offers in exchange is scale, a deep English-speaking professional pool, and rates at the low end of this market, with one firm here publishing $6.24 an hour.
Compliance reads better here than in Latin America. Four of these five make a clear HIPAA statement and three describe signed business associate agreements, including one organization-level BAA extended to every healthcare client. That reflects two decades of Indian firms serving US healthcare, and it's a genuine advantage of the region. The requirements themselves come from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which sets no geographic limit on where protected health information may be processed.

1. Honest Taskers
Best for: practices that want an Indian assistant working their own hours, with a signed BAA and a published retention figure.
Pricing: $10.00 to $12.65/hrLocation: India among four regionsModel: Managed staffingFirst hire: Two-week working trial
Honest Taskers recruits in India alongside the Philippines, Latin America, and Pakistan, and is the only firm here that publishes both a coverage commitment and a retention figure, which are the two facts that decide whether a night-shift arrangement holds together. Assistants work the client's US time zone on an agreed schedule, and reported retention is 99.6% average monthly, supported by healthcare coverage for eligible team members, interest-free loans, wellness programs, and performance-based raises. That matters more in India than anywhere else in this market, because the region's main weakness is night-shift turnover and the answer to it is how a firm treats the people working those shifts.
Roles are named rather than implied: virtual medical assistant, receptionist, biller, coder, scribe, records specialist, prior authorization and insurance verification specialists, patient intake coordinator, and care coordinator, all working inside your EHR and phone system. Compliance runs on quarterly HIPAA and data privacy training led by a dedicated compliance officer, a Business Associate Agreement signed where the professional will access PHI, remote work screening covering a dedicated password-protected computer with VPN and antivirus requirements, and a security environment described as SOC 2 audit ready, with HIPAA compliance verified by Accountable. Rates run $10.00 to $12.65 an hour with a two-week working trial on the first hire and unlimited replacement support. See the multi-purpose virtual medical assistant page for the full scope.
Limitation: we recruit across four regions, so confirm your assistant comes from India if that is specifically what you're buying. Our rate is also the highest here, and firms delivering only from India publish lower ones.
2. Wishup
Best for: practices that want an India-primary provider with a monthly price and an organization-level BAA.
Pricing: $1,299/mo part-time, $1,999/mo full-timeLocation: India-primaryModel: Managed placementTrial: Not publicly listed
Wishup is the closest thing on this list to a firm built entirely around Indian talent placed into small US businesses, and its healthcare line is a real product rather than a page. Pricing is published monthly at $1,299 for part-time at 20 hours a week and $1,999 for full-time at 40 hours, which is unusually transparent for this market and easy to budget against a front-desk salary. The strongest single fact about it is compliance: it provides an organization-level business associate agreement to every healthcare client, which removes the negotiation most practices dread and is a clearer commitment than the conditional language elsewhere in this category.
Limitation: it's a generalist virtual assistant company with a healthcare line rather than a healthcare staffing firm, so test clinical vocabulary and EHR familiarity candidate by candidate.
3. Task Virtual
Best for: practices wanting the lowest published hourly rate with medical roles named specifically.
Pricing: $6.24/hrLocation: Kolkata, West BengalModel: Hourly or monthly packagesTrial: Registration-based, terms not detailed
Task Virtual publishes an office in Kolkata and a rate of $6.24 an hour, the lowest verified figure in this article, and it names its medical tasks in unusual detail: appointment scheduling, patient records, insurance follow-ups, medical billing, medical transcription, insurance verification, call answering, EMR data entry, patient follow-up, and provider credentialing support. It states that assistants are HIPAA-trained and required to sign business associate agreements, which is the right structure. Both hourly billing for occasional support and monthly packages are offered.
Limitation: it publishes a corporate office address rather than stating where assistants work, and trial terms and overall coverage windows aren't detailed, so both need confirming.
4. Staffingly
Best for: practices wanting a flat weekly cost with the most detailed compliance disclosure here.
Pricing: $399/wk at 45 hrsLocation: India, Pakistan, BangladeshVolume: $349 at 5+, $299 at 10+Compliance: SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001
Staffingly prices by the week rather than the hour, at $399 per full-time equivalent covering 45 hours, dropping to $349 at five or more people and $299 at ten or more, which works out below most hourly rates here at full-time volume. It names billing, coding, prior authorization, scribing, and front office work, and publishes the strongest compliance position in this article: SOC 2 Type II, ISO/IEC 27001:2022, HIPAA, GDPR, a signed business associate agreement, and a $5 million errors and omissions and cyber policy, with delivery from stated secured facilities in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
Limitation: its workflow is AI-assisted with a person verifying output rather than fully human, and it delivers from three countries, so confirm which one your assistant sits in.
5. Cloudstaff
Best for: larger practices wanting documented security certifications and a published retention figure.
Pricing: Not publicly listedLocation: Philippines, Colombia, India, KenyaModel: Managed offshore teamsRetention: 99.5% monthly
Cloudstaff names India among four stated delivery countries and is the strongest firm here on documented security, stating HIPAA compliance alongside ISO 27001, ISO 9001, PCI-DSS, and GDPR, with a 99.99% SecurityScorecard rating. It reports 99.5% monthly staff retention and serving over 1,000 companies, so it can staff a team rather than a single seat. For a practice whose procurement process asks for named certifications rather than assurances, this is the entry that will pass it.
Limitation: healthcare is one vertical among many with no medical roles itemized, and no pricing is published, so both clinical depth and cost need establishing directly.
Should you choose India, the Philippines, or Latin America?
India gives you the largest professional pool, the deepest experience of US healthcare processes on the outsourcing side, and the lowest published rates, starting at $6.24 an hour. Its compliance posture is the most mature of the three regions, with signed business associate agreements more routine than exceptional. The cost is the time difference: covering your clinic day means a permanent night shift, so ask every firm for its retention figure and treat a refusal to give one as an answer.
The Philippines sits in a similar time zone to India but has a deeper healthcare-specific talent pool, because a national nursing surplus means many assistants arrive already fluent in clinical vocabulary. Rates are a little higher than India's floor and the same night-shift issue applies. For scribing and other clinically literate work it's usually the stronger region.
Latin America solves the time zone rather than the price. Bogota, Mexico City, and Lima work daytime hours that overlap yours, Spanish comes as standard, and rates now run close to Asian levels. Its weakness is compliance, where several firms selling healthcare roles publish no HIPAA statement at all. If your work is patient-facing and conversational, nearshore usually wins; if it's documentation and claims at volume, India competes on both price and process maturity.
What are the risks of hiring a medical virtual assistant from India?
- Night-shift turnover, which is this region's main failure mode. Ask for a retention figure in writing.
- Talent location published as a corporate office rather than where staff work.
- Generalist firms with a healthcare page, where clinical vocabulary is learned on your patients.
- Multi-country providers, so your assistant may not be in India at all unless you specify it.
- HIPAA training presented as compliance, with no signed business associate agreement behind it.
- Monthly full-time commitments larger than your actual workload.
- Live payer and patient calls difficult to place inside a night shift.
- AI-assisted workflows where a person verifies output, which needs checking for clinical work.
- Indian public holidays removing cover on days you didn't plan for.
How much does an Indian medical virtual assistant cost?
Published rates run from $6.24 an hour at the low end to $10.00 to $12.65 at the high end. Staffingly's $399 a week at 45 hours works out near $8.87 an hour and falls to roughly $6.64 at ten or more people. Wishup prices monthly at $1,299 part-time for 20 hours a week and $1,999 full-time for 40 hours, which is about $11.50 an hour part-time and $12.50 full-time. Cloudstaff quotes on request.
The spread is wide enough that the right comparison is cost per covered hour including turnover, not the headline rate. A $6 assistant replaced twice a year costs more than a $12 one who stays, because each replacement means retraining on your EHR, your payers, and your patients, and every gap lands on your front desk. That's the reason retention figures matter more in this region than in any other, and why only two firms here publishing them is worth noticing. Twenty to forty hours a week is the usual starting point, landing roughly $500 to $2,000 a month. Rates move, so confirm before you sign.
Is India stated as the talent location, or just an office address?
- Corporate address in one country and staff in another is the common gap, so establish which you are getting.
- A signed BAA in writing, and whether it is standard or on request.
- A published retention figure, given the night-shift model.
- The exact hours your assistant will work, written into the agreement.
- Named healthcare roles rather than a general healthcare page.
- EHR experience tested with your own system.
- Whether AI assists the work, and who verifies it.
- Which country your assistant sits in, if the provider is multi-country.
- Trial terms, replacement support, and how fast cover arrives.
Which tasks need live patient or payer contact, and in whose hours?
- Everything needing live patient or payer contact goes on one list, with the hours it has to happen in.
- Decide whether any of it needs live patient or payer conversation, since that argues for nearshore instead.
- Shortlist two or three firms that state India as a talent location.
- Ask each whether a BAA is standard or conditional.
- Ask for a retention figure and how night-shift staff are supported.
- Interview candidates yourself, on the phone, in English.
- Confirm the schedule and public holiday cover in writing.
- Start with records, data entry, and follow-up before anything patient-facing.
- Review at two weeks and 60 days on turnaround, accuracy, and attendance.
Methodology and sources
We verified each company at its own website on August 21, 2026, recording stated talent location, published pricing, the healthcare roles each names, HIPAA posture including whether a BAA is stated, and how US-hours coverage is described. Business associate requirements come from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which sets no geographic restriction on processing. Rates were captured as dated points rather than quotes, so re-check before buying, and anything unpublished is marked "not publicly listed". This list is five entries because five firms could be verified. VirtualEmployee.com, Info Hub Consultancy, MyTasker, Qodoro and GeBBS all block automated retrieval, so nothing could be read from source. Vee Technologies was verified as Bangalore-based with ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and CMMI-DEV Level 3 but states no HIPAA posture and names no roles. Omega Healthcare states hiring in India but sells enterprise revenue cycle contracts rather than individual placements. Sunknowledge publishes a New York address and no India delivery location, so it fails the one test this article cannot waive.
