Q: Does a neurology virtual medical assistant interpret MRI or EEG results?

No, interpreting an MRI or EEG result is a clinical decision that stays with the neurologist. The assistant matches the report to the right chart, flags anything that meets the practice's own written urgency rule for same-day review, and schedules the follow-up visit once the report is filed. Honest Taskers staff do administrative and clinically adjacent work only.

Can a neurology virtual medical assistant submit prior authorization requests for CGRP inhibitors or MS infusions?

Yes, submitting the request, tracking the payer's determination and filing a peer-to-peer request on denial are administrative tasks a neurology virtual medical assistant regularly handles. Choosing which drug the patient starts and adjusting the regimen stay with the prescribing neurologist. The assistant tracks the paperwork clock rather than the clinical decision.

How long does it take to hire a neurology virtual medical assistant?

Most Honest Taskers placements complete within one to three weeks of a signed agreement. Payer portal access and EHR credentialing usually take longer than that and belong to the practice rather than the staffing firm, so start those requests the day the agreement is signed. New clients also receive a two-week working trial with their first selected professional.

What happens if MRI and EEG authorizations aren't tracked closely?

Authorizations that aren't tracked closely expire quietly, and a lapsed approval can cancel an imaging appointment the practice already booked. The patient's diagnosis moves further out on an already long calendar, and the practice often restarts the payer's process rather than simply resubmitting. That cascading delay is why this queue needs a dedicated owner rather than shared attention.

Should a neurology virtual medical assistant have full EHR chart access?

No, access should be scoped to the queues the role covers, such as referral intake, authorization tracking and result routing, rather than the whole chart. The practice controls which systems and permissions a remote hire receives, and narrower access limits what's exposed if anything goes wrong. Honest Taskers signs a Business Associate Agreement before the assistant reaches any protected health information.

How much does a virtual medical assistant for neurology practices cost?

Four firms publish rates: Care VMA Health starts at $9 an hour, Hello Rache is $9.50, Honest Taskers is $10.00 to $12.65, and HelpSquad Health is $8 to $10 for back-office work or $10 to $13 for patient-facing. Staffingly is $399 a week for 45 hours. A US medical secretary earned a median $22.08 an hour in May 2025 by comparison.

Do these companies sign a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement?

Some do and some state only HIPAA training, which is not the same. My Mountain Mover states a signed BAA is part of every healthcare contract, Virtual Nurse Rx provides one to every client, HelpSquad Health includes it in the rate, Staffingly reports a signed BAA alongside SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001, and Honest Taskers signs one before PHI access.

How quickly can an assistant start?

Virtual Nurse Rx reports an average 48-hour deployment and Care VMA Health advertises 48-hour matching. My Mountain Mover states hiring within 7 to 14 days and Rockstar Global reports a 7 to 14 day implementation. Most of the elapsed time is your own onboarding, so preparing system access and a task list shortens it.

Can I try one without a long commitment?

Yes, Hello Rache states cancel anytime with no long-term commitment, Care VMA Health offers no long-term contracts and a Flexi Plan with no minimum hours, DocVA states a contract with no lock-in period, Virtual Nurse Rx is month-to-month, and Honest Taskers provides a two-week working trial on the first hire.

Will the assistant know neurology practice workflows?

Ask rather than assume. My Mountain Mover states pre-trained healthcare talent experienced in widely used electronic health records across 50-plus specialties, MEDVA names its practice-type breakdown, and DocVA states its assistants are experienced healthcare professionals. Request the specific assistant's background in neurology practices and who trains them on your systems.

What is the main administrative bottleneck in neurology?

Advanced imaging and infusion authorization. Both are slow, both frequently require appeal, and in neurology the delay postpones diagnosis rather than merely payment. A dedicated remote owner for that queue has clinical value as well as financial value.

Can an assistant help with long new-patient waitlists?

Yes, and cancellation backfill is where the gain is. Neurology waitlists are long while same-week cancellations go unfilled. An assistant working a prioritized waitlist against every cancellation converts wasted slots into seen patients.

Neurology practices don't take on a virtual medical assistant to shave a few dollars off an hourly rate. They take one on because the paperwork trailing a single patient, an MRI order, an EEG referral, a CGRP prescription, a headache diary, can outrun what a front desk has hours to process. What the hire involves comes first. Imaging authorization workload behind MRI and EEG orders is the queue most practices underestimate, and CGRP and MS infusion approvals run on their own separate clock entirely. Referral intake from primary care is the entry point for nearly every new patient, and neurology's long consultation notes need their own preparation and drafting support. Seizure and headache diaries only help a neurologist once someone has logged them into the chart. What a stalled imaging authorization costs a clinic in lost slots and delayed diagnoses is the flip side of getting that queue wrong. Diagnostic results need a routing rule of their own, and a growing appointment backlog is the clearest signal that this hire is overdue. What the role costs against an onsite coordinator, and which interview questions separate a candidate who's run authorization queues before from one who hasn't, close out the practical part. Sources behind every figure above follow at the end.

How do you hire a neurology virtual medical assistant?

You hire a neurology virtual medical assistant by naming the authorization and documentation queues the role will own before writing a single line of the job posting. Neurology carries some of the heaviest paperwork in outpatient medicine, and a posting built around vague duties such as administrative support pulls the wrong applicants.

Start with the queues themselves, such as MRI, EEG and EMG prior authorization, CGRP inhibitor and MS infusion approvals, primary-care referral intake, consultation note preparation, seizure and headache diary logging, and diagnostic result routing. Name two or three queues to outsource first, not all of them, because a first hire who owns everything owns nothing well.

Screen for authorization experience specifically, not general medical office background, since payer rules for advanced imaging and specialty drugs differ from a routine referral. Honest Taskers recruits neurology-experienced candidates from the Philippines, Latin America, India and Pakistan, and every hire works the practice's own US time zone and schedule. Run the two-week working trial on real queue volume, then hand over EHR access scoped to what the role needs. That boundary holds throughout, and the assistant routes results and drafts notes for the neurologist's sign-off, never interpreting a scan or giving clinical advice.

What MRI and EEG authorization work should a neurology virtual medical assistant handle?

Handling the paperwork side of MRI, EEG and EMG authorization is what a neurology virtual medical assistant should own, building the clinical documentation packet from the chart, submitting it through the payer portal, tracking the determination, and filing a peer-to-peer request on the neurologist's calendar the moment a plan denies.

Advanced imaging and neurodiagnostic testing sit near the top of most payers' prior authorization lists, and a denied MRI order doesn't just delay a scan. It delays the diagnosis that scan was ordered to reach. Keeping that packet complete on the first submission is the assistant's job, meaning symptom history, prior conservative treatment, exam findings and the specific code the imaging center needs, pulled from the chart rather than reconstructed from memory under a deadline.

None of this involves deciding whether a patient needs the scan. That decision, and the read of the result once it arrives, stays with the neurologist. What moves to the assistant is everything between the order and the appointment, tracked so nothing silently expires while a patient waits.

How does a neurology virtual medical assistant manage CGRP and MS infusion approvals?

Tracking each drug class on its own separate authorization clock, rather than treating specialty-drug requests as one queue, is how a neurology virtual medical assistant manages CGRP and MS infusion approvals. CGRP inhibitors such as Aimovig, Ajovy, Emgality and Nurtec ODT usually require documented step therapy, meaning failed trials of older migraine preventives, before a plan approves them. MS disease-modifying therapies such as Ocrevus, Tysabri and Kesimpta carry their own infusion or injection scheduling layered on top of the approval itself.

Assembling the record supporting each request falls to the assistant, such as prior medication trials and outcomes, diagnosis codes, and the visit notes a payer wants before approving an infusion slot. Renewal dates get flagged well ahead of expiry, since a lapsed authorization can cancel a scheduled infusion appointment outright and push it weeks further out.

Choosing which drug a patient starts, and adjusting the regimen if it isn't working, stays with the prescribing neurologist throughout. The assistant tracks the paperwork clock; the neurologist makes the clinical call.

What primary-care referral intake does a neurology virtual medical assistant coordinate?

Coordinating primary-care referral intake means pulling the incoming referral, checking insurance eligibility and network status, matching the referring diagnosis against the neurologist's own intake criteria, and requesting outside records the visit will need, all before the patient is scheduled, and it's core work for a neurology virtual medical assistant.

Referral intake is the entry point for nearly every new neurology patient, and a slow or incomplete intake shows up later as a wasted first visit, one where the neurologist reads an incomplete history instead of examining the patient. Closing that gap falls to the assistant, who confirms the referral carries a working diagnosis code, requests imaging or lab results the primary-care office already ran, and flags missing pieces back to the referring office rather than letting the delay land on the patient's appointment.

Because this work touches protected health information from the first referral fax onward, Honest Taskers signs a Business Associate Agreement before the assistant accesses any of it, with HIPAA training led by a dedicated compliance officer. Referral work sits alongside several other queues covered in our guide to tasks to outsource to a virtual medical assistant, which maps the split between clerical work and clinical judgment across the whole role.

How does a neurology virtual medical assistant support long consultation notes?

Supporting long consultation notes means preparing the visit template beforehand and drafting the note afterward for a neurology virtual medical assistant, leaving every clinical conclusion for the neurologist to write or approve. Neurology visits generate some of the longest notes in outpatient medicine, since a single consultation can cover a detailed history, a multi-system exam and a differential spanning several possible diagnoses.

Before the visit, the assistant pulls prior notes, imaging reports and medication lists into the template so the neurologist opens a chart that's already organized instead of blank. After the visit, working from the neurologist's dictated summary or the encounter recording where the practice permits it, the assistant drafts the note into the practice's own format and routes it back for sign-off.

Assessments and plans stay in the neurologist's own words, never drafted from scratch by the assistant. What gets drafted is the scaffolding around the neurologist's own clinical language, reviewed and signed before it becomes part of the record.

Why does seizure and headache diary tracking need a neurology virtual medical assistant?

Seizure and headache diary tracking needs a neurology virtual medical assistant because the data patients collect between visits only helps a neurologist once someone has logged it into structured chart fields ahead of the appointment. A paper diary or a phone app full of dates, triggers and medication timing is close to unusable if the neurologist has to read through it live, in the room, while the patient waits.

Transcription and organization make up the assistant's job here, meaning entering frequency, duration and trigger notes into the fields the practice's template expects, flagging gaps where a patient stopped logging, and attaching any app export to the chart before the visit starts. Done well, the neurologist opens the visit with a trend already visible instead of a stack of loose data to sort through first.

Interpreting what that trend means for treatment, whether a medication needs adjusting or a pattern warrants further testing, is a clinical judgment and stays with the neurologist. Getting the data in front of the person qualified to read it is where the assistant's contribution ends.

What happens to a neurology clinic when imaging authorizations stall?

When imaging authorizations stall, a neurology clinic loses the exam slot it already booked, and the patient's diagnosis moves further out on a calendar that was already weeks long. An imaging center's own schedule doesn't wait for a payer's decision, so a denial or a delayed determination often means starting the booking process over rather than simply resubmitting paperwork.

Costs stack from there. Appeals and peer-to-peer reviews pile onto whoever is already behind on the current week's requests, so the backlog compounds instead of staying flat. Patients call the front desk asking why nothing has happened, which is time the practice spends explaining a payer's delay rather than working the next authorization. Visit time then goes toward managing a patient's frustration about the wait instead of discussing the results that visit was meant to cover.

None of this is a clinical problem. It's an administrative one, and it's exactly the kind of queue a dedicated remote hire is built to keep moving before it reaches this point.

How does a neurology virtual medical assistant route diagnostic test results?

Routing diagnostic test results means matching each incoming MRI, EEG or EMG report to the correct chart, flagging anything that meets the practice's own written urgency criteria for same-day neurologist review, and scheduling the follow-up visit once the report is filed, all standard work for a neurology virtual medical assistant. Reports arrive from imaging centers and neurodiagnostic labs on their own schedules, often outside the visit that ordered them, and a report nobody has routed to a chart is a report nobody is acting on.

Escalation runs on a rule the practice writes, not on the assistant's own judgment about what looks concerning. A written list, such as this finding gets flagged today and this one waits for the next scheduled review, keeps the process consistent regardless of who's working the inbox that week.

Reading the result and deciding what it means for the patient's care stays with the neurologist. Making sure the report reaches that person promptly, and that the follow-up gets booked once it does, is the assistant's job.

When does a neurology appointment backlog justify a virtual medical assistant?

A neurology appointment backlog justifies a virtual medical assistant once new-patient wait times stretch past a few weeks and the front desk spends more hours chasing authorization callbacks than scheduling patients. That's the practical signal worth watching, rather than a fixed number of patients on a waitlist, because the same backlog means something different in a single-neurologist practice than in a multi-provider group.

A few other triggers are worth naming plainly, starting with a new neurologist joining the practice, which usually brings a wave of intake work before the schedule stabilizes. An existing coordinator leaving on short notice can turn a manageable queue into an unmanaged one within a week. Adding an infusion program for MS patients brings a whole authorization and scheduling workflow that didn't exist before.

Practices weighing whether the workload has crossed that line can walk through the general process in our guide to how to hire a virtual medical assistant, which covers the hiring steps common to every specialty before the neurology-specific queues layer on top.

What does a neurology virtual medical assistant cost against an onsite coordinator?

A neurology virtual medical assistant runs $10.00 to $12.65 an hour through Honest Taskers, billed hourly with no payroll taxes or benefits added on top of that rate. At 20 hours a week over a four-week month that's roughly $800 to $1,012, and at 40 hours a week roughly $1,600 to $2,024, numbers worth running against your own scheduled hours rather than accepting as fixed.

US medical secretaries and administrative assistants earned a median $45,930 a year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics release for May 2025. Employer benefits add about 48.7% on top of wages for office and administrative support roles in private industry, per the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Employer Costs for Employee Compensation release for March 2026, which puts one in-clinic administrative seat near $68,252 a year before equipment, software or office space.

Onsite coordinator versus a neurology virtual medical assistant, cost components compared
Cost component	Onsite coordinator	Neurology virtual medical assistant
Base pay	Median $45,930 a year (BLS OEWS, May 2025)	$10.00 to $12.65 an hour, billed hourly
Payroll taxes and benefits	About 48.7% on top of wages (BLS ECEC, March 2026)	None added on top of the hourly rate
Fully loaded annual estimate	Near $68,252 before equipment or office space	$20,800 to $26,312 a year at 40 hours a week
Replacement if the hire isn't a fit	Practice repeats the full recruiting cycle	Unlimited replacement support, plus a two-week working trial on the first selected professional

Run the arithmetic on your own posted hours rather than the national median above. A high-cost metro practice sits well above $68,252 for the in-house seat, and a rural single-neurologist practice sits below it. See our fuller breakdown of how much a virtual medical assistant costs for the same math applied across other specialties.

Which questions reveal a neurology virtual medical assistant's authorization experience?

Five questions separate a candidate who's run neurology authorization queues before from one describing general medical office experience with new vocabulary attached.

Which payer portals have you submitted an MRI or EEG prior authorization through, and what did a denial letter usually ask for next?
Walk me through building a CGRP inhibitor request when the payer requires documented step therapy first.
A primary-care referral arrives with no diagnosis code attached. What do you do before scheduling the patient?
How would you flag an EEG report that meets urgent review criteria, without making the call on what it means?
Describe how you've logged a seizure or headache diary into a chart before a visit started.

Listen for specifics rather than confidence. A candidate who names an actual payer portal, an actual drug class or an actual escalation rule has done this work before. One who answers in generalities about being organized and detail-oriented hasn't, and neurology's authorization backlog isn't the place to find that out during the first month on the job. These screening steps sit on top of the general hiring process laid out in our guide to how to hire a virtual medical assistant, which many practices read before narrowing to specialty-specific questions.

Which sources back this neurology hiring guide?

Honest Taskers rate, trial terms, placement timeline and recruiting geography come from the company's own published rate card and service terms. Wage context for the in-house comparison comes from the Bureau of Labor Statistics' "Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics" release for May 2025, with employer load figures from its "Employer Costs for Employee Compensation" release for March 2026.

Competitor heading research for this specialty couldn't be completed this pass, so no competitor page is cited by name here. Honest Taskers describes its own security environment as SOC 2 audit ready rather than certified, a real limitation next to a firm publishing a formal certification. No savings percentage, no waitlist length and no denial rate appears above, because those numbers depend on your own payer mix and your own schedule, not on a national average.

Practices ready to compare providers rather than screen candidates one at a time can see our ranking of best neurology virtual medical assistant companies, built from published pricing, HIPAA and BAA terms, and commitment structure across the firms that serve this specialty.

Honest Taskers, Carenet Healthcare, and Medusind lead this year's shortlist of neurology virtual medical assistant companies, seven firms ranked on published pricing, the Business Associate Agreement position each states in its own words, commitment terms, and what each publishes about itself. For neurology practices the work that matters is obtaining authorization for MRI, EEG and infusion therapies. Below we set out how long imaging authorization takes, why it is the delay to own, what the work costs, whether a provider backfills a cancelled infusion slot, and which turnaround to measure first. Of the seven here, two publish a rate and two state a signed BAA, and those two columns narrow the list faster than any claim about quality.

Disclosure: Honest Taskers publishes this list and appears at position 1. We're judged on the same five published criteria as every other company here.

How we chose the best neurology virtual medical assistant companies

We ranked these firms on five facts, each read at the provider's own website on August 24, 2026: the scope each offers neurology practices, the HIPAA and Business Associate Agreement position in the firm's exact wording, published pricing, commitment terms, and the verified detail each publishes. We ignored claims about screening quality and talent percentiles, because every firm in this market makes them and none is checkable from outside. What's checkable is what a firm will commit to. For neurology practices the additional question is whether the assistant can handle scheduling infusion appointments and confirming the authorization is still active without being taught the basics first.

Best neurology virtual medical assistant companies compared

The table ranks all 7 on the same columns, Honest Taskers first because we publish the list. Facts were read on August 24, 2026 and change often, so treat them as a starting point, not a quote.

Neurology virtual medical assistant companies compared on the criteria stated below, read at each provider's own site.
Company	What the firm offers	HIPAA / BAA as stated	Published pricing	Model	Notable verified facts
Honest Taskers	Hourly placed staff working in your own systems across reception, intake, records, prior authorization, billing support and patient outreach	BAA when PHI is accessed; HIPAA compliance verified by Accountable	$10.00–$12.65/hr	Hourly, no minimum; two-week trial	Licensed nurses and physicians in pool; 99.6% average monthly retention
Carenet Healthcare	Virtual care and nurse triage at scale	Not publicly listed	Not publicly listed	Managed clinical program	Combines patient-engagement staff and registered nurses with physician e-consults for a triaged virtual care experience; offers after-hours clinical support and nurse tri
Medusind	Outsourced function	Not publicly listed	Not publicly listed	Outsourced revenue cycle	Medical and dental billing, coding and credentialing, AR follow-up, payment posting; Physician groups, FQHCs, behavioral health, home health, dental and DSOs, 30+ special
Virtual Nurse Rx	Reception, intake, scheduling, verification, prior authorization, transcription, referral management, after-hours answering and live chat	BAA provided to every client	Not publicly listed	Month-to-month; 48-hour deployment	"No AI Does Your Work"; admin support only; Florida HQ, 50 states

Rockstar Global	Medical reception, verification and authorization specialists, billing, administrative support and credentialing	States "100% HIPAA-compliant", but no BAA wording	Not publicly listed	7–14 day implementation	Built for PT, OT, SLP, DSOs; 300th VA, 170+ practices; 97% retention
Care VMA Health	VMA, receptionist, administrative, RPM, chronic care management, patient care coordinator, billing, coder, triage and scribe roles	States "100% HIPAA Compliant", but no BAA wording	Starts at $9/hr	No long-term contracts; Flexi Plan with no minimum hours	48-hour matching; US-based account management; RPM, CCM, triage, coder roles

Read the compliance and pricing columns together. The firms that publish a rate aren't the ones with the weakest compliance position, which is the usual assumption, and several firms publish neither a price nor commitment terms nor a Business Associate Agreement, which means three separate negotiations before you can compare them to anything. For neurology practices the scope column matters too, because chasing outside imaging and prior records before the consultation isn't work every provider has done before.

1. Honest Taskers

Best for: neurology practices that want a published hourly rate, a signed BAA and third-party verified compliance with no minimum.

Pricing: $10.00–$12.65/hrCompliance: HIPAA verified by Accountable; BAACommitment: Hourly, no minimumFirst hire: Two-week working trial

Honest Taskers is where this list starts because the compliance and pricing questions are answered in public rather than in a quote. For neurology practices the placed assistant works your time zone inside your own systems on obtaining authorization for MRI, EEG and infusion therapies, scheduling infusion appointments and confirming the authorization is still active, chasing outside imaging and prior records before the consultation, and managing long new-patient waitlists and filling cancellations. Staff are trained on HIPAA and data privacy under a dedicated compliance officer, a Business Associate Agreement is signed before anyone touches protected health information, and HIPAA compliance is verified by Accountable rather than asserted internally. The talent pool includes licensed nurses and physicians. Rates run $10.00 to $12.65 an hour depending on role, background, schedule and location, billed hourly with no weekly minimum, and the first hire comes with a two-week working trial. Honest Taskers reports 99.6% average monthly retention. See the multi-purpose virtual medical assistant service for role detail.

Limitation: staff work remotely and administratively, so clinical assessment, treatment decisions and every clinical conversation in neurology practices stays with your own clinicians, and Honest Taskers describes its security environment as SOC 2 audit ready rather than holding a SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification of the kind Staffingly and MyOutDesk publish.

2. Carenet Healthcare

Best for: Neurology practices weighing a care management option alongside placed assistants.

Pricing: Not publicly listedCompliance: Not publicly listedModel: Managed clinical programCategory: Care management

Carenet Healthcare supplies clinical care management rather than administrative staff, so it answers a different half of the problem than a placed assistant does. What the site publishes: What it is: Virtual care and nurse triage at scale; Verified facts: Combines patient-engagement staff and registered nurses with physician e-consults for a triaged virtual care experience.

Limitation: its own outcome figures are company-reported, and no pricing is published

3. Medusind

Best for: Neurology practices weighing a revenue cycle option alongside placed assistants.

Pricing: Not publicly listedCompliance: Not publicly listedModel: Outsourced revenue cycleCategory: Revenue cycle

Medusind is an outsourced revenue cycle firm, which is the right shape when the bottleneck is authorization and claims rather than front-desk cover. Read from its own site: Outsourced function; Medical and dental billing, coding and credentialing, AR follow-up, payment posting; Client types: Physician groups, FQHCs, behavioral health, home health, dental and DSOs.

Limitation: neither pricing, delivery location nor certifications are published

4. Virtual Nurse Rx

Best for: neurology practices needing cover within days, month-to-month, with an explicit no-AI position.

Pricing: Not publicly listedCompliance: BAA provided to every clientCommitment: Month-to-monthSpeed: 48-hour average deployment

Virtual Nurse Rx is the fastest to deploy and the most explicit about scope. Two published statements make it worth attention. It provides a BAA to every client on month-to-month engagements with an average 48-hour deployment, and it states plainly that it offers administrative support only, with clinical decisions always remaining with your licensed providers, despite RN and MD framing in its own positioning. It also advertises a "100% Human-Performed Service: No AI Does Your Work". It's headquartered in Florida and serves all 50 states.

Limitation: no pricing is published, and the RN and MD framing sits awkwardly beside its own statement that the service is administrative support only.

5. VMeDx

Best for: neurology practices wanting reception, prior authorization and scribing from one vendor.

Pricing: Not publicly listedCompliance: HIPAA-trained assistantsCommitment: Not publicly listedBase: Nashville, Tennessee

VMeDx covers the widest span of adjacent roles under one vendor. Its role list is among the broadest here, covering virtual medical assistant, receptionist, prior authorization specialist, remote scribe, billing assistant, remote patient monitoring and administrative assistant, plus dedicated dental and veterinary lines. Training is stated in electronic medical record systems, medical coding and billing and US healthcare regulations, candidates are screened to what it calls the top 3%, availability is 24/7, and it is based in Nashville, Tennessee.

Limitation: it publishes neither pricing nor commitment terms nor any BAA wording, and states no delivery location for its staff.

6. Rockstar Global

Best for: neurology practices in therapy or dental group settings wanting a provider built for that market.

Pricing: Not publicly listedCompliance: States 100% HIPAA-compliantCommitment: 7–14 day implementationFocus: PT, OT, SLP and DSOs

Rockstar Global is the only firm here built around named practice types. Formerly Virtual Rockstar, it is the only firm in this pool built around named practice types rather than healthcare generally: physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology and dental service organizations. Roles include medical reception, verification and authorization specialists, billing and credentialing, supported by an internal VA Academy. It reports placing its 300th assistant across more than 170 private practices with 97% practice partner retention and a 7 to 14 day implementation.

Limitation: it publishes no pricing and no BAA wording, and its focus on therapy practices and dental service organizations means other practice types are not its core market.

7. Care VMA Health

Best for: neurology practices wanting a $9 starting rate, no long-term contract and a no-minimum plan.

Pricing: Starts at $9/hrCompliance: States 100% HIPAA compliantCommitment: No long-term contractsSpeed: 48-hour matching

Care VMA Health is the most flexible published arrangement in this market. It publishes a rate starting at $9 an hour with three plan shapes, part time at 15 to 35 hours a week, full time above 35, and a Flexi Plan with no minimum hours at all, on no long-term contracts with 48-hour matching. Its role list is wide, covering virtual medical assistant, receptionist, admin, remote patient monitoring, chronic care management, patient care coordinator, billing assistant, remote coder, telehealth assistant, telephone triage assistant and scribe, with US-based account management.

Limitation: it states no Business Associate Agreement despite claiming full HIPAA compliance, does not say where its staff are based, and names no specialties.

How long does imaging authorization take, and can a neurology virtual medical assistant shorten it?

It's the routine bottleneck, and yes. Authorization for MRI, EEG and infusion therapies, plus infusion scheduling, is all document work. The cost gap is large: a medical secretary or administrative assistant earned a median $22.08 an hour, about $45,930 a year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics May 2025 wage data for secretaries and administrative assistants, before benefits, payroll tax and a desk, against published remote rates from $9 an hour. Keep in the building whatever genuinely needs a person there: greeting patients, physical specimens and mail, and anything requiring a wet signature. The practical route is to start with the single task costing you the most rather than defining a whole role upfront, because the job's easier to scope once somebody's doing it. Hourly and cancel-anytime arrangements suit that far better than a quarterly minimum. For the task-level breakdown, see virtual medical assistant duties.

Why is imaging authorization the delay a neurology virtual medical assistant should own?

Because in neurology it postpones diagnosis rather than billing, which is why it is settled with four contractual points before anyone starts.

BAA versus HIPAA training. A Business Associate Agreement puts breach liability in writing. "HIPAA-trained" describes a person who sat a course. Five firms in this market state a BAA; the rest state training. Ask which you are getting, in writing.
Imaging authorization delays. Advanced imaging authorization is the routine bottleneck in neurology and it delays diagnosis rather than just billing. Ask for turnaround targets and how denials get appealed.
Commitment before certainty. Terms run from a Flexi Plan with no minimum hours to a 3-month minimum at 20 hours a week. Match the term to how sure you are.
Access scope. Grant the minimum systems access each task needs and review it quarterly and on every staff change.
Time zone against your day. Ask for the shift pattern rather than the delivery country, which matters most where staff are offshore.

How much does a neurology virtual medical assistant cost?

Two firms publish a rate here. Honest Taskers is $10.00 to $12.65 an hour with no weekly minimum. Care VMA Health starts at $9 an hour with a Flexi Plan carrying no minimum hours. The other five on this list, Carenet Healthcare, Medusind, Virtual Nurse Rx, VMeDx and Rockstar Global, quote on request. For neurology practices the unit worth computing is cost per authorization obtained and cancelled slot refilled, which you can work out from a two-week sample rather than from a quote. Rates were checked on August 24, 2026 and change often. For rate context, see how much a virtual medical assistant costs in 2026.

Can the neurology virtual medical assistant company backfill a cancelled infusion slot?

Ask how quickly, plus a signed BAA, a published rate and an exit you can use.

A signed Business Associate Agreement. Five firms in this market state one. Get the document before access, not after the first shift.
A published rate. An undisclosed rate means you negotiate compliance terms alongside the money.
An exit you can use. Cancel-anytime, no lock-in, month-to-month and a no-minimum Flexi Plan all exist here.
Appeal handling on imaging denials. Ask who writes the appeal and how fast, since initial denials are routine.
Named systems experience. Ask which practice management and EHR systems the specific assistant has worked in, and who trains them on yours.

Which neurology turnaround should a virtual medical assistant measure first?

Imaging authorization, because it is the number that decides how long a patient waits for an answer.

Measure one month of imaging authorization turnaround and cancellation backfill rate so you have a baseline to judge against.
List the five tasks you would hand over in week one, with the system each requires.
Mark which touch protected health information, which decides whether a BAA is mandatory.
Shortlist on stated BAA, published pricing and exit terms before reading any quality claims.
Review at four weeks against the baseline rather than against an impression, then widen scope.

For a fuller hiring walkthrough, read how to hire a virtual medical assistant.

Methodology and sources

We read each company's own website on August 24, 2026, recording the scope offered, the HIPAA and Business Associate Agreement position in each firm's exact wording, published pricing, commitment terms and the verified facts each publishes. We set aside claims about screening quality and talent percentiles, because every firm makes them and none is checkable from outside; where such figures appear above they are labelled as the company's own claim. Wage context is from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics May 2025 Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics. Business Associate Agreement obligations are set by the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules. Where a company published no figure we marked it "not publicly listed" rather than guessing; practice counts, retention rates and savings claims are company-reported and we did not audit them. Portiva, Pearl Talent and Wishup were excluded because their sites refuse automated requests, and Phoenix Virtual Solutions was excluded because its domain now returns an expiration notice.

The fastest way to narrow this market is to decide which tasks touch patient data, because that single question removes several firms. Our explainer on what a virtual medical assistant is covers the scope a remote hire can own for neurology practices, and where the compliance obligation begins.
