Honest Taskers, SupportDDS, and Edge lead this year's shortlist of virtual medical assistant companies for dental service organizations, thirteen healthcare-focused staffing firms ranked on how they run one insurance verification standard across all locations, submit and follow up claims, and chase aging buckets, all in your time zone and under a signed BAA. Every company here places remote people in your operating model, not AI phone bots or eligibility-scraping software. Below we set out whether a group needs one standard or a hire per location, what happens when access is not separated per location, which of four pricing models fits, whether the company credentials as well as bills, and which function to pilot first.
Disclosure: Honest Taskers publishes this list and appears at position 1. We're judged on the same five published criteria as every other company here.

How we chose the best virtual medical assistant companies for dental service organizations
We ranked these companies on five facts, checked at each provider's own site on August 12, 2026. Those are dental specialization, talent location, published pricing, the DSO and multi-site support each company states, and HIPAA posture. A group buys a repeatable operating model, not one helpful assistant, so we weighted firms that name the work a DSO centralizes, including insurance verification, claims and appeals, CDT coding, payment posting, accounts receivable, credentialing and recall. Blank facts read "not publicly listed", and only one company in this pool names DSOs on its own site, so we hedge every other scale claim as stated. Our sister list of virtual staffing companies for dental service organizations covers the same buyers from the staffing-model angle.

This pool sells single seats and single-practice services, published rates cluster between $10 and $14 an hour, most of the work is billing and verification rather than a full front office, and only four companies put a signed BAA on the record. If your group needs one vendor working the same way in twelve locations, most have published nothing about doing it.
1. Honest Taskers
Best for: multi-location groups and DSOs that want one healthcare-trained remote team across every practice.
Pricing: $10.00–$12.65/hrLocation: US clients; PH, LatAm, India and Pakistan recruitingModel: Managed staffingFirst hire: Two-week working trial
Honest Taskers is a healthcare staffing company whose stated client sizes run from small private practices through multi-location practices, provider groups, enterprise healthcare organizations and PE-backed healthcare groups. Its virtual dental assistant service line covers dental receptionist, biller, coder, treatment coordinator, insurance verification and patient recall roles. Work-from-office is available to qualifying enterprise clients hiring five or more professionals, with centralized supervision and added security structure. Candidates train quarterly on HIPAA and data privacy under a dedicated compliance officer, work your time zone, and sign a Business Associate Agreement when they'll access PHI, with compliance verified by Accountable and the environment SOC 2 audit-ready.
Limitation: not the lowest hourly rate on this list.
2. SupportDDS
Best for: groups that want a vendor whose own site names DSOs, not just private practices.
Pricing: $13/hr full-time; RCM Core $2,680/moLocation: Zimbabwe, Zambia, Costa Rica; Texas HQModel: Dedicated full-timeTrial: Not publicly listed
SupportDDS is the one company in this pool that explicitly names dental service organizations alongside private practices on its own site, and that's the plain reason it ranks second here. It staffs dedicated full-time dental support from Harare and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, Lusaka in Zambia and Liberia Guanacaste in Costa Rica.
Limitation: no BAA is described publicly, so get one in writing before any patient data moves.
3. Edge
Best for: groups standardized on one practice management system that want staff already trained on it.
Pricing: Flat monthly fee, figure not publishedLocation: Not publicly listedModel: Managed placementTrial: No trial published; free replacement
Edge markets its dental line as Edge for Dental and is the only company here publishing the software its talent trains on, naming Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental, Curve Dental, Weave, RevenueWell, DentalXChange and Dental Intel, with training on the main three before anyone starts. The roles it names are dental scheduling coordinator, dental insurance coordinator and dental billing coordinator.
Limitation: neither the talent location nor the monthly fee is published.
4. Swiss Monkey
Best for: groups adding fractional front-office coverage location by location instead of full seats.
Pricing: Hourly not published, plus 13.5%–17.5% feeLocation: US-based professionalsModel: MarketplaceTrial: Not publicly listed
Swiss Monkey runs a marketplace of pre-vetted dental front office professionals rather than a staffing agency, with US-based talent and access to a global pool. Coverage is fractional, from 5 hours a week up past 20, with no long-term contract.
Limitation: the hourly rate isn't published, and a 13.5% to 17.5% platform fee sits on top.
5. eAssist Dental Solutions
Best for: groups that want US-based billing specialists on the revenue cycle and credentialing.
Pricing: Not publicly listedLocation: US; Utah, California, Texas, VirginiaModel: Specialist networkTrial: Not publicly listed
eAssist Dental Solutions is dental billing and revenue cycle only, worked by more than 1,600 US-based specialists with offices in Utah, California, Texas and Virginia. The scope covers insurance billing, patient billing, insurance verification, coding, accounting and reconciliation, credentialing and appeals, and credentialing is the piece that hurts when a group carries dozens of providers against dozens of payer contracts.
Limitation: billing and revenue cycle only, so it won't cover phones, scheduling or treatment coordination.
6. DCS
Best for: groups that want verification and billing priced per transaction to model cost by location.
Pricing: Billing from $1,400/mo; verification from $2.50/checkLocation: Not publicly listedModel: Outsourced serviceTrial: Not publicly listed
DCS, formerly Dental Claim Support, publishes more pricing detail than anything else here. Dental insurance billing runs $1,400 a month up to $40K in collections, then 3.5% to $100K, 3% to $150K and 2.5% above, while oral surgery billing starts at $1,875 a month up to $40K and then charges 5.25%, 4.5% and 3.75% on the same tiers.
Limitation: no HIPAA posture and no talent location are published.
7. Capline Dental Services
Best for: groups that want billing, credentialing and verification from one revenue-cycle vendor.
Pricing: Not publicly listedLocation: Not publicly listed; Houston, Texas addressModel: Outsourced serviceTrial: Advertises a trial, terms not published
Capline Dental Services covers dental billing and collections, dental credentialing and dental insurance verification. Keeping credentialing next to billing matters when a newly acquired practice brings providers who aren't on your payer contracts yet.
Limitation: neither pricing nor talent location is published, and the trial it advertises has no stated terms.
8. Outsource Strategies International
Best for: groups that want to choose between a full-time equivalent, a fixed monthly cost or per-transaction pricing.
Pricing: Not publicly listed; three models offeredLocation: Not publicly listedModel: Outsourcing vendorTrial: Advertises a free consultation, terms not published
Outsource Strategies International handles dental and medical outsourcing, with dental billing, dental insurance verification and dental accounts receivable management as separate lines. Its three pricing models, full-time equivalent, fixed cost and per transaction, let a group buy verification per check at small locations and hold an FTE where volume is real.
Limitation: it's an outsourcing vendor rather than a dedicated hire, and no rate is published.
9. Reach
Best for: groups with Spanish-speaking patients that want Latin America time-zone overlap on the phones.
Pricing: $11/hr, from $1,995/mo at 174 hoursLocation: Latin AmericaModel: Dedicated monthlyTrial: Not publicly listed
Reach staffs dedicated dental support from Latin America and ties that to US time-zone overlap and Spanish-language patient demand. The work it names is inbound and outbound calls, revenue cycle management, insurance verification and administrative support, and it describes its staff as real people supported by AI tools for eligibility checks, recall messages and documentation rather than software doing the job alone.
Limitation: it says itself that a virtual assistant isn't HIPAA compliant on its own, and no BAA is described publicly.
10. DentVia
Best for: groups that need bilingual seats priced separately from English-only ones.
Pricing: $11.00/hr English, $14.00/hr bilingualLocation: Not publicly listedModel: Month to monthTrial: Not publicly listed
DentVia sells dedicated dental support month to month with no long-term commitment, and it publishes two rates, one for English-speaking assistants and a higher one for bilingual English and Spanish. Two published rates help at group scale, since a DSO can put bilingual seats only where the patient base needs them.
Limitation: the talent location isn't published and no BAA is described.
11. Staffing For Doctors
Best for: groups that want a signed BAA and secure devices on the record at a flat published rate.
Pricing: $14/hr flat, no setup feesLocation: Not publicly listed; Los Angeles officeModel: Managed staffingTrial: Not publicly listed
Staffing For Doctors is a general healthcare firm spanning more than 55 specialties, with a dental line and six named dental roles, front desk receptionist, insurance verification specialist, new patient intake coordinator, patient financing coordinator, patient outreach coordinator and recall specialist. Groups underbuy those last two, since recall revenue sits idle until somebody owns the calling.
Limitation: a general healthcare firm spanning 55-plus specialties, so confirm how deep its dental bench is.
12. Next Level Consultants
Best for: groups that want US-based remote dental billing plus training for practice teams they just acquired.
Pricing: Not publicly listedLocation: United States; Tacoma, WashingtonModel: Remote billing serviceTrial: Not publicly listed
Next Level Consultants runs remote dental billing out of Tacoma, Washington, covering claim submission, claims follow-up, claims appeals, insurance eligibility verification and payment posting. It also trains practice staff on billing practices, the quiet differentiator for a group absorbing a location whose team has never worked to a group standard.
Limitation: remote dental billing only, and no rate is published.
13. DocVA
Best for: groups testing remote admin support at the lowest published rate here with no lock-in.
Pricing: $10/hr, no lock-in periodLocation: PH, LatAm, India, PakistanModel: Managed staffingTrial: No published trial; re-matches
DocVA is a general healthcare staffing firm with a dental line, staffing from the Philippines, Latin America, India and Pakistan with no lock-in period. The dental work it names is scheduling, patient reminders, insurance verification, billing coordination, documentation support and front-office follow-up, and it says it works inside the practice's existing system rather than asking the office to switch.
Limitation: no BAA is described publicly, so get one in writing before any patient data moves.
Does a group need one assistant standard or a hire per location?
One standard, which is the whole reason a group buys this rather than hiring a coordinator into each practice. A virtual medical assistant company fits when you want one verification, billing and phone standard everywhere. The American Dental Association's Health Policy Institute reports that 91% of dentists recruiting hygienists called it "very or extremely challenging", that only 60% have an adequate number on staff, and that staffing tied with dental insurance as dentists' top 2026 concern, in its hygienist shortage findings. A remote assistant doesn't fill a hygienist's chair, since scaling, radiographs and clinical charting stay with licensed clinical staff, but it does take verification, claims and recall calls off the front desk. A centralized in-house hub is often the eventual answer, and remote staffing is how groups get there, given the dental staffing shortage most operators describe.
What happens when an assistant's access is not separated per location?
One breach becomes every practice's breach, which is what group scale changes about both the security question and the failure radius.
- Multi-tenant system access. Ask how the vendor separates permissions per entity, and put least-privilege access per location in writing.
- BAA structure across entities. Ask whether you're signing one Business Associate Agreement at group level or one per legal entity, since that changes the paperwork on every acquisition. Only Honest Taskers, Edge, Swiss Monkey and Staffing For Doctors describe a BAA publicly.
- Inconsistent workflows between locations. Ask for the written verification and claim-follow-up standard.
- Scaling speed and seat supply. Ask how fast ten seats can be added and from where.
- Reporting that doesn't roll up. Ask for production, aging and call metrics by location, not blended.
- Continuity and turnover. Ask about retention and replacement terms, since a group absorbs turnover thirteen times over.
Which of four pricing models fits a dental group's assistant?
An hourly rate, a flat monthly fee per seat, a percentage of collections, or a per-transaction charge, and the right one depends on whether your volume is growing faster than your headcount. Published hourly rates here run from $10 to $14, with Honest Taskers between $10.00 and $12.65 by role, background, schedule and location (checked August 2026). Revenue cycle vendors differ, so SupportDDS sells monthly RCM packages, DCS charges a monthly minimum plus a declining percentage of collections, and Swiss Monkey adds a platform fee on an unpublished rate. Structure matters more than the rate, so ask about volume pricing at twenty seats, contract term and cancellation, and whether the fee is per entity or per group. If billing is the first function you pull into one place, our guide to how virtual assistants help with dental billing breaks the work down claim by claim.
Can the assistant company credential providers as well as bill?
eAssist and Capline both do, which saves a second contract across a group. A group buys a repeatable operating model, not one good candidate.
- One verification standard. Ask to see the written workflow for eligibility checks, breakdowns and pre-authorizations.
- Credentialing across providers and payers. eAssist and Capline both credential as well as bill, saving a second contract.
- One coding standard. Ask which CDT edition the team codes to, since the American Dental Association publishes the CDT Code and CDT 2027 is current.
- Your practice management stack. Confirm experience in your group's system, whether Dentrix, Open Dental, Eaglesoft, Curve Dental, CareStack or Weave.
- Consistent phone handling. Ask for the call standard and a sample, scoped against what a virtual dental receptionist owns.
- An onboarding runbook. Ask what happens the week you acquire a practice.
- Dated, published pricing. A rate with a date beats a vague promise.
Which one function should the assistant pilot at one location?
The one that hurts most everywhere, usually insurance verification, claim follow-up or recall. Write the standard down, then roll the same runbook across the group.
- Pick the function that hurts most everywhere, usually insurance verification, claim follow-up or recall, then write the standard down.
- Shortlist two or three vendors whose dental focus, talent location, published pricing and HIPAA posture fit, and ask what each has done at multi-site scale.
- Settle the paperwork before access, including BAA structure, per-location permissions, least-privilege roles and who revokes access when someone leaves.
- Interview candidates yourself, confirm experience in your practice management system, and pilot at one location with a written escalation path.
- Agree the reporting up front, by location and by region, so you see which sites the standard reaches.
- Scale in blocks, holding the vendor to the same onboarding sequence each time.
Methodology and sources
We verified each company at its own website on August 12, 2026, recording dental focus, talent location, published pricing, stated DSO and multi-site support, and HIPAA posture. Staffing context comes from the American Dental Association's Health Policy Institute, and coding context from the ADA's CDT Code publication. Rates are volatile and were captured as dated points rather than quotes, so re-check before you buy. Unpublished facts are marked "not publicly listed", self-stated claims company-reported, and scale capability as stated, because only one company here names DSOs publicly.
